Fruit Bowl
This was a pro-bono job for the Dallas chapter of the Human Rights Campaign’s Coming Out Project. It was also supposed to be one poster for one event: a charity fundraiser bowling tournament. In the past, the tournament’s yearly theme had always lent itself to camp humor. While the 2005 theme, “A Fairytale Fruit Bowl,” could certainly have been treated that way, I offered the commitee a more sophisticated alternative, one that borrowed from 60’s poster art and art nouveau. My approach to the theme was well received, and the job expanded to making everything from newspaper ads to tournament documents to online forms. As the job expanded, I selectively applied elements from the original poster –such as the main font, the “watermark fairies”, and the art nouveau border– across different pieces of collateral to make them all look related, without being too repetitive.
